LMC launches weekly traffic awareness program

KATHMANDU: Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) has launched a weekly traffic awareness program. The program was inaugurated by the Mayor of Lalitpur, Chiribabu Maharjan, on Sunday.

The initiative, in coordination with the Traffic Police Office, aims to raise public awareness about road safety and promote adherence to traffic rules.

The program is set to run weekly to spread awareness about traffic safety.

In his speech, Mayor Maherjan also mentioned the recent launch of the Intelligent Traffic Light system in the city.

Despite facing some challenges, the system has been successfully implemented and will operate continuously for 365 days without interruption.

Maherjan emphasized that although there were initial doubts, the system has proven effective.

He also mentioned that vehicles violating traffic rules will be penalized.

Additionally, next year, the Intelligent Traffic Light system will be expanded to areas including Pulchowk to Mangalbazar, Gwarko, Jawalakhel to Lagankhel, Harisiddhi, and from Jawalakhel to Ikantakuna, Bhainsepati, and Bungmati.

Mayor Maherjan reiterated the city’s commitment to developing Lalitpur as a smart city.
