Khotang District Court convicts Madan Rai of sexual abuse
He further stated that sentencing will occur during a subsequent hearing on Feb 7.
KATHMANDU: The Khotang District Court has found Madan Rai guilty of sexual abuse charges involving minors.
Rai, the founder of Shubhdra Madan Foundation, was accused of sexually abusing girls and young women studying at the foundation.
According to Sudeep Bhattarai, Information Officer at the Khotang District Court, the verdict was delivered by Judge Narayan Prasad Dahal on Jan 23.
He further stated that sentencing will occur during a subsequent hearing on Feb 7.
If convicted, Rai faces more than three years of imprisonment.
The case gained attention following a report by Setopati online news outlet 18 months ago, alleging that Rai had sexually exploited the minors attending the foundation.
The police subsequently detained Rai and launched an investigation, leading to the formal filing of charges against him.
