Missing: Keti Harayteako Suchana hits theatres across Nepal
The production company, Tri-City Pictures, confirmed that the film is being shown in theaters across Nepal.
KATHMANDU: The film Missing: Keti Harayteako Suchana (Missing: A Girl’s Disappearance) began its public screening today.
Although two Nepali films were released last Friday, today marks the screening of only this one film.
The production company, Tri-City Pictures, confirmed that the film is being shown in theaters across Nepal.
Directed by Deependra Gauchan, the movie portrays the events that unfold after a girl from a hill community and a boy from the Madhesh community meet through social media.
Gauchan shared, “The film captures the beauty and rich cultural diversity of the Terai, and also incorporates the Maithili language. While stories from the hill and Himalayan regions have appeared on screen, the Terai has been less represented. The local Maithili language used in the film will offer urban audiences a new experience. Just like the story of Ujeli, we aim to make the narrative of the missing girl unforgettable for years to come.”
Known for his direction of documentaries like Ujeli and Hamro Moomin, Gauchan has made the Madhesh community and the Maithili language the focus of this film, a rare theme in Nepali cinema.
He added, “The film reflects the geographical and cultural diversity, as well as the psychology of two different communities, presenting a new side of the Madhesh to the audience.”
The film primarily features actor Nazir Husen and actress Shristi Shrestha, whose characters represent the contrasting communities.
Gauchan noted that their performances embody the psychology and lifestyles of the two communities.
Hussain plays the role of Ram, while Shrestha portrays Sita. Their performances have received positive feedback from film professionals at the screening.
The cast also includes Sanjay Gupta, Ram Narayan Thakur, Madan Thakur, Rina Rimala, Kaushalya Thakur, Lalitadevi Mishra, Rupesh Mandal, Sudip Patel, Anil Kurmi, Manoj Shah, Arjun Pokhrel, Om Prakash Karn, and others.
