KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, through a virtual presence, marked the breakthrough of the main tunnel of the Siddhababa Tunnel project today, reiterating the government’s commitment to advancing development and good governance in Nepal.
This significant milestone pertains to the Siddhartha Highway’s national pride project. The breakthrough completed a 1.126-kilometer tunnel under the upper Siddhababa Temple section of the Butwal-Tansen road. Although initially scheduled to attend in person, health concerns led PM Oli to join the event virtually from Baluwatar.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Oli highlighted the project’s potential to prevent landslide-related accidents and save lives along the route.
He expressed optimism that the tunnel would not only ensure safer travel but also enhance socio-economic connectivity and facilitate the exchange of goods and services in the region.
Referring to the recent breakthrough of the Thankot-Nagdhunga Tunnel, PM Oli emphasized that Nepal has officially entered the era of tunneling. He noted that such infrastructure projects mark the end of perilous journeys and the beginning of safer, more efficient travel routes.
“Breaking through this tunnel is a moment of national pride. Nepal is no longer synonymous with inaccessibility. We aim to make the country even more navigable,” stated PM Oli. “This government is focused on rapid development and good governance. We are determined to create a better Nepal, leveraging cooperation and initiatives that benefit the nation.”
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Deputy Prime Ministers Prakash Man Singh and Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal, Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Chetan Narayan Acharya, and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song.
The Siddhababa Tunnel is a testament to Nepal’s infrastructural progress, promising safer and shorter travel for its citizens while fostering national development.
