New Los Angeles wildfire burns over 8,000 acres
The fire’s rapid spread has been fueled by dry vegetation and Santa Ana winds, common in Southern California.
KATHMANDU: California’s Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) reported that a fast-moving wildfire in Los Angeles County has scorched 8,096 acres (32.76 square kilometers) as of Wednesday morning.
The blaze, named the Hughes Fire, ignited near Lake Hughes Road, close to Castaic Lake, approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Los Angeles.
The fire’s rapid spread has been fueled by dry vegetation and Santa Ana winds, common in Southern California.
Mandatory evacuation orders have displaced around 19,000 residents, forcing them to flee their homes.
Among those affected, the Pitches Detention Center in Castaic relocated 476 inmates to the nearby North County Correctional Facility as a precautionary measure.
Los Angeles County has faced devastating wildfires this month, with the Palisades and Eaton fires claiming 28 lives and destroying thousands of structures.
Authorities are urging residents to remain alert and follow evacuation orders to ensure safety.
