Barekot: Three-year-old girl murdered, 12-year-old boy detained
Police say that the girl may have been murdered by slitting her throat after an attempt to rape her.
KATHMANDU: A three-year-old girl has been murdered by slitting her throat in Barekot.
Asmita Sarki, the three-year-old daughter of Shiva Bahadur Sarki, a resident of Barekot Rural Municipality-7, Syala, Jajarkot, was murdered by slitting her throat.
She had been missing since Thursday afternoon and her body was found covered with straw.
The family found her only at 10 pm. Police say that the girl may have been murdered by slitting her throat after an attempt to rape her.
Police have taken a 12-year-old boy from Barekot Rural Municipality-6, Tansi, into custody on charges of murdering the girl and have started an investigation, informed District Police Chief DSP Purushottam Prasad Pandey.
According to him, it has been revealed that the boy killed her using a sharp weapon. ‘Initial investigation has revealed that the girl was stabbed after she screamed during the rape attempt and was killed by covering her mouth. It does not appear that rape took place. But it can be assumed that an attempt was made,’ said DSP Pandey.
