KATHMANDU: At least seven Nepalis lost their lives in a tragic train accident in Maharashtra, India, on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Pachora, Paradhade taluka of Jalgaon district, claiming 13 lives in total.

Among the deceased, four were from Achham, one from Kailali, while the addresses of two others are yet to be confirmed.

The victims from Achham include Nandaram BK, his wife Maisara, their son Himu from Panchadewal Binayak Municipality-4, and Jayakala Kami, a 60-year-old from Chalsa, Kamalbazaar Municipality-4.

From Kailali, the deceased was identified as Kamala Bhandari, 43, of Mohanyal Rural Municipality-6, Solta.

Two others were Radheshyam Radh from Dudhua, Banke, and Lachhiram Pasi from Narayanpur, with only partial address details available.

The tragedy unfolded when passengers of the Pushpak Express, traveling from Lucknow to Mumbai, panicked after noticing smoke near the train’s wheels.

Fearing a fire, they jumped onto the tracks, unaware of the rapidly approaching Karnataka Express from the opposite direction.

The oncoming train struck many of them, resulting in the fatalities.

Authorities are investigating the incident, emphasizing the need for improved safety protocols to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
