KATHMANDU: The detention hearing of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane concluded on Thursday at the Rupandehi District Court.

Judge Prahlad Kumar Yogi presided over the hearing, and Lamichhane’s statement was recorded.

Govinda Gyawali, court registrar, confirmed that the government attorney’s arguments had concluded and informed that debates from both the victim’s side and Lamichhane’s defense would continue tomorrow.

Lamichhane was again released into his family’s custody under similar conditions as the previous day.

Lamichhane faces charges of embezzling funds from the Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative in Butwal.

He had appeared in court the previous day to testify, and his statement was concluded.

Lamichhane was released on bail and instructed to appear in court again this morning.

Following the court’s order, Lamichhane attended the hearing as scheduled.

The District Government Attorney’s Office has filed supplementary charges in the Supreme Cooperative fraud case, bringing 22 additional defendants into the case.

The new charge sheet demands a compensation of Rs 55.59 million, with Lamichhane, GB Rai, and former vice-chair Chhabilal Joshi facing claims totaling Rs 10.99 million.
