11th Auto Trade Dialogue concludes in New Delhi

KATHMANDU: The 11th Auto Trade Dialogue was successfully held in New Delhi, India, under the distinguished chairmanship of Rahul Bharti, President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

The event took place on Monday, with a focus on discussions about the automobile industry, localization policies, and their impact on trade.

During the panel discussion, Karan Chaudhary, President of the Nepal Automobile Dealers’ Association (NADA), shared insights on the localized policies in Nepal and their effects on business.

He highlighted the contributions of Nepal’s automobile sector to the national economy and employment. Chaudhary also discussed the country’s efforts toward road safety and the transition from vehicle importation to industry development through assembly plants.

Speaking on the import of electric vehicles (EVs) in Nepal, Choudhary emphasized the growing trend of EV imports, driven by the government’s prioritization of green energy.

He also noted that the installation of charging stations is increasing in line with the demand for electric vehicles. According to Chaudhary, Nepal is rapidly becoming a hub for electric vehicles in the region.

The event also featured speeches from prominent figures, including Cedric S. Crowley, Deputy High Commissioner of South Africa; Dr. Seven Halderon, Director-General of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport, Germany; H.E. Kenneth F.H. Da Nóbrega, Ambassador of Brazil to India; Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries; and L. Sathya Srinivas, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India.

The dialogue was organized in three phases: the first focused on integrated investment in trade agreements, the second addressed the impact of localized policies on business, and the third discussed building flexibility in the global trade landscape.

Representatives from various countries, including the World Trade Organization (WTO), participated as panelists.

The NADA delegation, led by President Karan Chaudhary, also attended the India Mobility Auto Expo, which took place from Jan 17-21 in New Delhi.

The delegation included Tejanarayan Sah, Institutional Vice President of NADA, General Secretary Surendrakumar Upreti, and Central Working Committee members Kapil Siwakoti and Pradeepman Pradhan.
