Darwin Núñez strikes twice in injury time to secure Liverpool’s 2–0 victory over Brentford

KATHMANDU: Darwin Núñez delivered a sensational performance in injury time, scoring twice to lead Liverpool to a 2–0 win against Brentford on Saturday.

The victory strengthened Liverpool’s grip at the top of the Premier League table.

Second-placed Arsenal dropped points in a 2–2 draw against Aston Villa, allowing Liverpool to open up a six-point lead.

Arsenal sits at 44 points from 22 matches, while Liverpool, with one game in hand, now has 50 points.

Núñez, who was substituted in the 65th minute, faced jeers from Brentford supporters upon entering the pitch.

However, the Uruguayan striker silenced the critics in the first minute of injury time by converting a precise cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Just two minutes later, Núñez struck again on a counter-attack, securing Liverpool’s first win in three league games.

Before this, Liverpool had drawn matches against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest and suffered a defeat to Tottenham in the first leg of the League Cup semifinal.

Liverpool has been in stellar form this season, losing just one league game—a September defeat to Nottingham Forest.
