Tiger Cup Volleyball Championship to kick off in Pokhara

Both men’s and women’s categories will feature one international team each, with India competing in the men’s category and Thailand in the women’s.

KATHMANDU: The 5th edition of the Tiger Cup Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Championship is set to begin in Pokhara in the second week of Magh.

Organized by the Tiger Group of Pokhara, the championship will take place from Jan 25 to Feb 1.

Both men’s and women’s categories will feature one international team each, with India competing in the men’s category and Thailand in the women’s.

A total of 12 teams, six in each category, will participate.

The event includes three departmental teams in both men’s and women’s categories.

In the men’s division, the competing teams are Help Nepal Sports Club, Gandaki Province Volleyball Association, Sunil Volleyball Club (Ameen, India), Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, and APF Club.

In the women’s division, teams include APF Club, New Diamond Sports Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, the host Tiger Group, and Thailand’s Travel Inquiry United Passion Volleyball Club.

Prize details

The winners will receive Rs 585,555, the runners-up Rs 285,555, and the third-place team Rs 185,555.

The MVP of the tournament will be awarded Rs 25,777. The best players in individual categories—including best server, setter, libero, spiker, and coach—will each receive Rs 10,555.

Budget & venue

The organizers estimate a budget of approximately Rs 12.5 million for the tournament, which has been held at the Pokhara Stadium since its inception in 2020.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu, Nepal Volleyball Association Chair Jitendra Bahadur Chand revealed that an effort to include Sri Lanka’s league champion team fell through due to internal issues on their end.

The championship continues to grow in prestige, promising an exciting week of volleyball action in Pokhara.
