KATHMANDU: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, aged 54, was hospitalized early Thursday morning after sustaining multiple stab wounds during an attempted burglary at his Mumbai residence.
The incident occurred around 2:30 AM at his Bandra home, where he lives with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children.
Incident details
According to reports, an unidentified intruder entered Khan’s home and engaged in a confrontation with a female domestic worker.
Khan intervened to protect her, leading to a scuffle during which he was stabbed.
The assailant fled the scene, and Khan was promptly taken to Lilavati Hospital by his son, Ibrahim Ali Khan.
Injuries & medical treatment
At the hospital, it was revealed that Khan had sustained six stab wounds, including two deep cuts—one dangerously close to his spine—and a minor injury on his neck. A foreign object near his spine was identified and removed during surgery.
Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer of Lilavati Hospital, stated that Khan’s condition is stable, and a full assessment of his injuries will follow once all surgical procedures are completed.

Kareena Kapoor Khan and their children were unharmed during the incident. The actor’s team issued a statement requesting privacy and patience, emphasizing that the matter is under police investigation.
The statement read, “We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter. We will keep you updated on the situation.”

Mumbai police have launched an investigation into the attempted burglary and are searching for the perpetrator.
The incident has raised concerns about security in Mumbai, particularly in areas populated by celebrities. Actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt expressed her concerns on social media, stating, “The city, and especially the queen of the suburbs, have never felt so unsafe before.”
