KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been released from custody.

The Kathmandu District Court ordered his release on Wednesday upon submitting a bail amounting to Rs 6 million.

Lamichhane faced legal proceedings after being implicated in the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative fraud case.

Following the court’s directive, a bank guarantee equivalent to the bail amount was promptly submitted, leading to his release.

After his release, Lamichhane expressed his faith in the justice system, stating, “Justice has not perished in this country. Thank you, everyone.” He reiterated his commitment to cooperating with the judicial process and his respect for the court’s authority.

Previously, Lamichhane, a former Home Minister, was also released on bail of Rs 6.5 million in connection with the Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud case in Pokhara.

The Kathmandu District Court noted in its order that evidence indicated transactions authorized by Lamichhane’s sole signature.

While the court refrained from declaring him guilty at this stage, it emphasized that further investigation and evidence evaluation would determine the outcome.

Lamichhane had appeared at the Kathmandu District Court on Sunday after being released last Thursday in the Pokhara case.

He was initially arrested on Oct 18 from the party’s central office in Baneshwor in connection with cooperative fraud allegations.
