KATHMANDU: Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister, on bail of Rs 6 million.

The decision was made on Wednesday by the bench of Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari following a detention hearing.

Lamichhane was accused in connection with a fraud case involving the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative, leading to the filing of a charge sheet against him in the court.

Senior advocates Sushil Pant and Raman Shrestha, along with Suraj Basnet and Surendra Kafle, defended Lamichhane during the hearing.

Last Thursday, Lamichhane was released on a bail of Rs 6.5 million by the Kaski District Court in relation to the Suryadarsan Cooperative fraud case.

He voluntarily appeared at the Kathmandu District Court on Sunday to face the charges.

Lamichhane had been arrested on Oct 18 from the central office of the RSP in Baneshwor regarding the cooperative fraud allegations.
