More than 1,000 fire incidents in five months, 16 dead
The fires have caused significant damage, destroying 190 homes, 130 cowsheds, and one government office. Additionally, 455 livestock were lost.
KATHMANDU: A total of 1,116 fire incidents have occurred across various districts of Nepal in the past five months, resulting in 16 fatalities.
Nepal Police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bishwa Raj Adhikari, reported that 145 individuals were injured in these incidents.
The fires have caused significant damage, destroying 190 homes, 130 cowsheds, and one government office. Additionally, 455 livestock were lost.
More than 8,000 police personnel were deployed to manage and control the fires, which led to an estimated property loss of approximately Rs 500 million. The fires displaced 29 families.
Koshi Province recorded the highest number of incidents, with 131 fires, while Madhes Province had 269, Bagmati Province 70, Kathmandu Valley 140, Gandaki Province 81, Lumbini 114, Karnali 51, and Sudurpaschim 60.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported 19 new fire outbreaks across the country yesterday, with two individuals injured. NDRRMA has urged the public to exercise heightened caution when handling fire, electricity, and gas-related materials, as fires continue to occur daily.
