KATHMANDU: As of January 15, 2025, Los Angeles is grappling with severe wildfires that have caused significant destruction and loss of life.

The Palisades Fire, one of the most destructive in the city’s history, has burned nearly 24,000 acres and is only 17% contained.

The Eaton Fire has affected approximately 14,117 acres with 35% containment. Combined, these fires have destroyed over 12,000 structures and resulted in at least 25 fatalities.

Firefighters are facing extreme conditions, including high winds and dry terrain, which have complicated containment efforts.

An additional 84,000 residents may soon be ordered to evacuate due to the unpredictable nature of the fires.

The economic impact is substantial, with damages estimated between $52 billion and $57 billion, making this one of the most costly wildfires in California’s history.

In response, over 8,500 firefighters from seven states and two countries are working tirelessly to control the blazes.

The National Weather Service has issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation Red Flag Warning for Los Angeles and Ventura counties, indicating critical fire conditions.

The fires have also exacerbated California’s ongoing water issues, contaminating drinking water supplies and stressing already scarce resources.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and adhere to evacuation orders to ensure their safety.
