Bhojpur’s Rai dies in road accident in Itahari
The deceased has been identified as Bijay Rai (Mukesh) of Hatuwagadhi Rural Municipality Ward No. 5, Bhojpur.
KATHMANDU: A fatal motorcycle accident occurred in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City, Sunsari, resulting in the death of one individual. The accident occurred in Tarahara, Itahari-20, when a motorcycle lost control and collided with an electric pole.
The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Vijay Rai (Mukesh) from Hathuwagadhi Rural Municipality-5, Bhojpur.
Rai, the chairperson of the CPN-UML in Hathuwagadhi-5, was critically injured in the crash. The incident occurred at approximately 7:40 PM on Tuesday evening near Himshikhar Boarding School on an internal road in Itahari-20, heading towards Tarahara market.
According to DSP Laxmi Bhandari from the Itahari Area Police Office, the motorcycle, with registration number Ko 3 8 Pa 2009, struck the electric pole on the right side of the road.
Rai was rushed to BP Koirala Health Science Institute in Dharan for treatment, but doctors declared him dead at 8:10 PM.
His body has been placed in the morgue at the BP Institute.
In the accident, 19-year-old Abish Basnet, a resident of Itahari-20, who was riding as a passenger, was also injured. Basnet has been taken into police custody for investigation.
However, the motorcycle rider’s identity remains unknown. The motorcycle has been seized and is in the custody of the Tarahara Police Post.
Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speed might have caused the motorcycle to lose control.
