KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane’s hearing in the cooperative fraud case has been deferred once again.

The Kathmandu District Court postponed the proceedings after debates from all lawyers remained incomplete today.

A bench led by Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari heard arguments from two defense lawyers and nine government attorneys.

However, with the debates yet to conclude, the case was deferred, and Lamichhane was sent back to custody.

The next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, as Tuesday is a public holiday.

Lamichhane, along with 39 others, faces charges of misusing funds worth Rs 1.19 billion from the Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative in Kalimati, Kathmandu.

The government attorney has demanded Rs 50.8 million in restitution from Lamichhane.

Previously, Lamichhane was granted bail by the Kaski District Court in the Surya Darshan Cooperative case after depositing Rs 6.5 million.

He had spent 84 days in custody during that investigation.
