Wildlife photographer Chungba Sherpa passed away

KATHMANDU: Renowned wildlife photographer Chungba Sherpa has passed away.

The 64-year-old died at 12:15 a.m. today while under treatment at the local Grande Hospital, said Phunuru Sherpa, the Ward Chair of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-1.

Chungba had been receiving treatment for a liver-related ailment since last week.

He was put under ventilator treatment.

He is survived by two sons and three daughters.

A permanent resident of Lukla, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-1 in Solukhumbu district, Chungba was also associated with the Nepali Congress party for a long time.

He served as the Nepali Congress’ Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality president and as the Chair of the then Chaurikharka Village Development Committee.

Chungba was also in the tourism business and has been active in wildlife photography for some years. He is also affiliated with various national and international photography-related organisations.
