KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered former Home Minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane to be remanded to police custody.

The bench of Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari issued the order, directing authorities to detain Lamichhane at the District Police Office, Kathmandu.

According to sources, preparations are underway to hold him in custody.

Lamichhane’s legal team had appealed for his release into his own or his family’s custody.

However, the court denied the request and ordered that he remain in police custody.

Lamichhane appeared in court on Sunday morning, where his statement was recorded.

After the statement, preparations for a detention hearing began, but the government attorneys requested additional time, postponing the hearing.

The investigation against Lamichhane stems from the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative case, in which he has been charged as a defendant.

Previously, in a separate case involving Pokhara’s Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud, Lamichhane was detained for 83 days before being released on bail of Rs 6.5 million.
