Veteran intellectual Dr. Medini Prasad Sharma joins CPN-UML

KATHMANDU: Dr. Medini Prasad Sharma, a veteran leftist intellectual and professor at Postgraduate Campus, Biratnagar, has officially joined the CPN-UML.

Dr. Sharma, a prominent figure in history and literature, previously served as a central advisor to the CPN-Maoist Centre.
Explaining his decision, he stated that the Maoist party is on the brink of disintegration and described UML as a “popular party of the people.”
He was welcomed to the party by UML central vice-chair Guru Baral, standing committee members Sherdhan Rai and Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, Koshi Province In-charge Sherdhan Rai, and Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Karki.
Koshi Province to Launch Three-Month Grassroots Campaign
According to Bhimjwala Rai, a UML Koshi Province member and deputy chief of the publicity and publication department, the meeting also approved a three-month grassroots campaign, Jara Abhiyan (Root Campaign).
This campaign aims to mobilize leaders and activists to every ward level in the province from mid-January to mid-April.
UML Koshi Province President Ghanshyam Khatri proposed the campaign plan, while Koshi Province Secretary Rajkumar Bhandari introduced the organizational work proposal.
An orientation program for the campaign will be held on Sunday in Biratnagar, where central leaders, provincial committee members, district officials, and representatives of affiliated organizations are expected to participate.
