Jyoti Magar criticizes Folk Song Association Chair
Jyoti criticized Rita’s participation in a celebratory event linked to the success of the folk song
KATHMANDU: Singer Jyoti Magar has raised serious questions about the actions of Rita Thapa Magar, Chairperson of the Folk Song Association, through a social media post.
Jyoti criticized Rita’s participation in a celebratory event linked to the success of the folk song “Ma Ta Dhale Dhale.”
In her facebook post, Jyoti wrote, “In the past, songs like ‘Kale Ke Ke Bolyo Malai Bistarale Polyo’ were opposed by the Association for allegedly distorting culture. Now, the same organization celebrates the success of a song like ‘Ma Ta Dhale Dhale.’ Is this logical?” She also mocked the Association by calling it a “so-called idealistic” body.
The celebration was held on Thursday to mark the song’s achievement of crossing 50 million views on YouTube.
Rita Thapa Magar’s presence at the event drew Jyoti’s ire.
Jyoti’s statement has sparked widespread reactions on social media.
By the time this report was prepared, her post had garnered over 2,200 likes and more than 500 comments.
While some supported her stance, others interpreted it as a personal grudge.
The debate highlights contrasting views on cultural standards and the evolving dynamics within Nepal’s folk music industry.
