NKL schedule announced, Kathmandu to face pokhara in opening match

KATHMANDU: The schedule for the Nepal Kabaddi League (NKL) was officially unveiled on Friday.

The opening match, set for Jan 17, will feature a clash between Kathmandu Mavericks and Pokhara Lakers.

The first-ever season of NKL, organized by Astronix Management, will see six franchise teams from six cities compete. 

In the opening round, Biratnagar will face Dhangadhi Wild Cats, while Janakpur Knights will debut against Himalayan Raiders from Butwal.

The league will follow a round-robin format with 15 matches, after which the top four teams will progress to the knockout stage. The top two teams will face off in Qualifier 1 on Jan 27, with the winner advancing directly to the final.

The third and fourth-ranked teams will compete in an Eliminator match on the same day, with the victor moving to Qualifier 2.

The loser of Qualifier 1 will then face the Eliminator winner in Qualifier 2, scheduled for Jan 29, to decide the second finalist.

The grand finale of NKL is set for Jan 31.

Matches will be held at the covered hall of the National Sports Council in Tripureshwar.

The league will feature one or two matches daily.

On double-match days, the first match will start at 5:30 PM, followed by the second at 6:30 PM. On single-match days, the game will begin at 6:30 PM.
