KATHMANDU: Singapore has secured its position as the world’s most powerful passport, surpassing Japan, according to the latest Henley Passport Index rankings.

The index evaluates global passport strength based on visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to international destinations.

Singaporean passport holders can travel to 195 destinations without a visa, securing the top spot.

Japan, which held the title previously, has dropped to second place, offering visa-free access to 192 destinations.

Sharing the third position are Finland, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, and Spain, whose citizens enjoy visa-free access to 192 destinations globally.

At the lower end of the rankings, Afghanistan holds the last position (106th), followed by Syria (105th) and Iraq (104th).

Pakistan ranks 103rd, while Somalia (102nd), Nepal, Palestine, and Bangladesh sit slightly higher.

Nepal’s Passport Rank Declines

Nepal’s passport ranking has slipped further this year, now standing at 101st, down from 98th previously.

Nepalese passport holders can travel visa-free to 39 countries.

How Are Passport Rankings Determined?

The Henley Passport Index publishes its rankings twice a year, in January and July, using real-time data updated throughout the year.

The rankings measure the number of destinations a passport holder can access without a visa or by obtaining one on arrival.

Changes in visa policies are promptly reflected in the rankings, offering a clear picture of global travel freedom.

Countries offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival travel options significantly enhance their passport rankings, providing their citizens greater global mobility.
