Leopard rescued alive after entering pheasant farm
According to the Division Forest Office in the district, the leopard, which entered the farm on Wednesday, was captured only this morning.
KATHMANDU: A leopard was captured in Parbat, Jaljala Rural Municipality-5, Kuwapani, after it entered a local farm on Wednesday afternoon.
The predator had intruded into Har Bahadur Pun’s “Anipada Agriculture and Livestock Farm,” causing significant damage before being contained.
According to the Division Forest Office in the district, the leopard, which entered the farm on Wednesday, was captured only this morning.
A wildlife rescue team from Pokhara, led by Forest Officer Ram Bahadur BK, successfully rescued the animal alive after an overnight operation.
“The rescue team arrived at the farm on Thursday evening and worked throughout the night. The leopard was finally secured this morning,” said BK. He added that the leopard, weighing approximately 40 kilograms and believed to be around seven years old, will be released in a safe location.
The leopard killed 30 pheasants and caused others to escape when it entered the farm, which is spread over five ropanis of land and protected by a seven-foot-high wire fence, according to the farm owner Pun.
He estimated the damages to be around seven lakh rupees.
Tilak Bahadur GC, the Ward Chairperson of Jaljala-5, confirmed that the leopard scaled the fence to attack the pheasants.
He also mentioned that leopards have been a persistent threat in the area, frequently attacking goats, dogs, and livestock.
