KATHMANDU: Two Nepalis lost their lives in a tragic car accident in Chantilly, Virginia, on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred around 7 AM local time near the Wyndham Hotel when the car plunged into a nearby pond.

The victims have been identified as 55-year-old Karna Khadka and his 20-year-old relative Nishchal Bhatta.

According to NBC Washington, Khadka worked as a housekeeper at the hotel and had recently brought Bhatt to work there as well.

The accident reportedly happened when the car slid from the parking area into the 10-foot-deep pond.

The front part of the vehicle was fully submerged.

Local Nepali community members stated that extreme cold weather and delays in the rescue operation contributed to the inability to save the victims.
