KATHMANDU: The President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, who was arrested in connection with a cooperative fraud case, has been granted bail by the court.

The Kaski District Court’s bench, headed by Judge Niti Raj Rai, ordered his release on a bail of 6.5 million rupees.

In its order to release Lamichhane on bail, the district court stated that there was currently no sufficient basis to declare him guilty based on available evidence.

Judge Rai mentioned that further investigation and additional evidence might reveal his involvement as the case progresses.

“Based on the available evidence, there is no immediate reasonable ground to declare the defendant guilty. However, once additional evidence is obtained, the decision may change accordingly. Therefore, Rabi Lamichhane may be released on bail of 6.5 million rupees or its equivalent in property or bank guarantee. If the defendant fails to meet this condition, he may be kept in custody under the provisions of sections 68 and 72 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 2072,” the court’s order stated.
