Army team sets big total against Bagmati with two half-centuries

KATHMANDU: In the fourth match of the Jay Trophy Men’s Elite Cup, the departmental team, Tribhuvan Army Club, set a large total against Bagmati Province with the help of two half-centuries.

Batting first after losing the toss, Army put up 276 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 60 overs.

Openers Imran Sheikh and Basir Ahmad’s contributions played a key role in setting the total. Sheikh top-scored with 72 runs off 104 balls, hitting 11 boundaries.

He shared a century partnership of 103 runs with fellow opener Tirtha Raj Das, who scored 44 runs from 78 balls.

Bhim Sarki added 32 runs off 51 balls before being dismissed.

For Bagmati, Bipin Acharya took three wickets, while captain Sandeep Lamichhane claimed two. Lamichhane became the first bowler in the tournament to concede 100 runs, finishing with figures of 1/103 from 22 overs.

At the end of Day 1, Bagmati had reached 124/5 in reply, trailing by 152 runs. Nandan Yadav and Bipin Acharya were at the crease for Bagmati.

For the opposition, Shubh Kasankar (34), Uttam Thapa Magar (28), Rit Gautam (21), and Ashutosh Ghireya (11) were dismissed.

In Army’s bowling attack, Akash Chand claimed three wickets, and Sompal Kami took two.

Both teams had drawn their first match, with Army earning 14 points and Bagmati 15, thanks to bonus points.
