Helicopter flights in Khumbu resumes with park authorization
Agreement with Sagarmatha National Park restores essential flights in Everest Region.
KATHMANDU: Helicopter operators in the Khumbu region can now resume flights after reaching an agreement with Sagarmatha National Park.
The park has permitted operations that do not harm the environment, ensuring flight continuity in the Everest region.
Earlier, the park and local authorities suspended commercial flights from Jan 1, allowing only essential ones with approval.
However, operators halted even critical flights due to safety concerns, prompting the park to lift its restrictions.
The Solukhumbu District Administration Office recently raised concerns over red flags at helipads, warning that blocking flights hindered disaster management, medical evacuations, and tourism.
Disruptions would lead to strict legal action.
This decision ensures vital services resume, supporting tourism and emergency needs in the region.
