Cold wave forces five municipalities in Mahottari to close schools
The municipalities of Jalashwar and Manrasiswa, along with Pipra, Sonma, and Ekdara Rural Municipalities, have announced the closure of schools for one week.
KATHMANDU: Due to a sudden drop in temperature over the past three days, five municipalities in the district have closed schools within their jurisdictions.
The municipalities of Jalashwar and Manrasiswa, along with Pipra, Sonma, and Ekdara Rural Municipalities, have announced the closure of schools for one week, starting today, citing difficulties in conducting classes due to the cold weather.
Jalashwar, Manrasiswa, Sonma, and Pipra Rural Municipalities have declared the closure of schools until Jan 13, while Ekdara Rural Municipality has extended the closure until Jan 15, as stated in their official notifications.
Due to the extreme cold, 10 municipalities and five rural municipalities in Mahottari, which has a total of 15 municipalities and rural municipalities, have declared an unseasonal winter break, affecting schools’ regular operations.
In the Terai-Madhesh region, a sudden cold wave and chilly winds have intensified over the past two to three days, resulting in unbearable and freezing temperatures that have disrupted daily life.
The cold weather has had a particularly severe impact on young children and the elderly, as reported by the district administration office.
