Newcastle defeats Arsenal 2-0 in first leg of EFL Cup semifinal

KATHMANDU: Newcastle has triumphed over Arsenal in the first leg of the English League Cup semifinal.

The match took place at Arsenal’s home ground, the Emirates Stadium, on Wednesday morning, with Newcastle securing a 2-0 victory.

Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon were the goal scorers for the visitors.

Isak gave Newcastle the lead in the 37th minute, and Gordon doubled their advantage in the 51st minute.

Despite efforts from both teams, neither was able to score further, and the match ended with Newcastle’s win.

The second leg will be played on Feb 5.

In the second semifinal match on Wednesday, Tottenham Hotspur faces Liverpool in the first leg.
