KATHMANDU: Minister of Health and Population (MoHP) Pradip Poudel has called for eliminating confusion regarding the operation of Dasharath Chand Health Science University.

During a monitoring visit to the university site at Geta, Godawari Municipality-5, today, he emphasized, “Move forward with both the establishment of the university and the initiation of the MBBS program simultaneously. Let’s take steps as they come—first the hospital, then the MBBS program can follow.”

Minister Poudel stated that the university’s operation involves its own processes. “It’s good if the university can be established, though it requires significant investment. The state must provide the necessary funds to operate the university,” he remarked.

Highlighting challenges, he noted that establishing a university in areas lacking operational hospitals and medical services would be difficult.

He added that even if regulations need to be amended, immediate action would include deploying 10 scholarship doctors and up to 20 nursing staff. “Let’s operate a 300-bed hospital. This will not hinder the university’s progress,” he said.

Additionally, Minister Poudel directed the Geeta Hospital to ensure round-the-clock emergency services.

Despite approximately Rs 7 billion worth of infrastructure being built, the hospital currently operates with only 50 beds.
