KATHMANDU: A powerful earthquake struck Kathmandu on Tuesday morning at 6:51 AM.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake measured 7.1 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was reported to be northeast of Lobuche, in the Khumbu region.

Residents rushed out of their homes and gathered on streets as the tremors were felt in Kathmandu and nearby districts, including Dhading, Sindhupalchowk, Kavre, and Makwanpur, as well as other parts of eastern hilly regions.
