Mentally unstable woman raped in Khotang, pregnancy leads to revelation

KATHMANDU: A 20-year-old woman from Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality in Khotang, who had been suffering from mental health issues for the past six years, was raped by a 39-year-old man from the same village.

The victim’s family became aware of the crime after learning that she was pregnant.
Following this discovery, they filed a police report, which led to the revelation of the crime.
According to the victim’s statement, the accused, 39-year-old Ek Kumar Rai, sexually assaulted the mentally unstable woman during the summer of last year.
The incident occurred when Rai took advantage of the woman’s vulnerability and attacked her.
He is currently reported to be in the United Kingdom. The police registered the complaint at the Khotang District Police Office on Jan 2.
