Court hearing continues in Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud case

KATHMANDU: The ongoing detention hearing in the Kaski District Court involves Rabi Lamichhane and six others accused in the Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud case.

On Sunday, senior advocate Shambhu Thapa, representing former Gorkha Media Network operator and ex-DIG Chhabi Lal Joshi, presented his arguments in court.
Joshi’s legal team argued that he had no involvement in the cooperative’s fraudulent activities and claimed that responsibility lies solely with the cooperative’s board of directors.
Thapa also pointed out that the statute of limitations had expired when the case was filed, and no new evidence had surfaced to justify the allegations.
The detention hearing began on Friday in the bench of Judge Neetij Rai. On the first day, Joshi’s defense team,
including senior advocate Jagannath Dhakal and advocates Apurva Khatri and Ganesh Bahadur Bhattarai, presented their case. On Sunday, Thapa concluded his arguments.
According to court registrar Rajan Khanal, Lamichhane’s defense team will begin their arguments today.
Senior advocates Sushil Kumar Pant, Raman Shrestha, Hari Subedi, and Dr. Narayan Ghimire, among others, are set to represent Lamichhane.
Legal representatives for other accused individuals, including Ram Bahadur Khanal, Meena Gurung, Krishna Bahadur Gurung, and Aarti Gurung, will also present their defense in court.
