Cold wave, fog, and mist impacting life across Nepal; health & safety precautions urged

KATHMANDU: The weather has changed across most parts of the country today, with mist and fog occurring in some places in the Terai, as well as in the hilly and mountainous regions.

The cold wave, which has been affecting life in the Terai for the past few days, is expected to worsen with the increase in cold and the continuation of fog and mist.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Meteorological Forecasting Division has urged everyone to take special precautions for their health.

Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane mentioned that the cold could lead to health problems, so people need to take extra care to protect themselves from the cold.

Lamichhane also pointed out that fog and mist could affect sectors like health, agriculture, and transportation, urging everyone to be cautious.

During such conditions, he advised people to stay warm, use headlights while driving, eat hot food, avoid excessive walking in the cold, and wear warm clothing.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, fog and mist have been occurring in many places of the Terai during the morning hours for the past few days. The temperature has dropped due to a lack of sunlight in some areas during the day, leading to increased cold.

This cold is affecting daily life, health, as well as road and air traffic, and the department has requested the public to take necessary precautions to prevent any adverse effects. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has been regularly monitoring the fog and mist and issuing daily bulletins.

Today, weather changes have also impacted air travel, with flights being affected in Kathmandu and other major parts of the country.

Tomorrow and the day after, light rain is expected in the hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, while fog and mist are likely to continue in the Terai.

Meteorologist Lamichhane also mentioned that there is a possibility of light snowfall in some areas of the hilly and high mountainous regions of Sudurpashchim Province, as well as in some other high hilly and mountainous areas of the country.
