KATHMANDU: A Russian war correspondent was killed, and four other media workers were injured in a Ukrainian drone strike in the Donetsk region, as reported by Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency on Saturday.

The attack targeted a car carrying Russian journalists along the Donetsk-Gorlovka highway, resulting in the death of Alexander Martemyanov, a stringer for the Russian newspaper Izvestia.

RIA Novosti reporter Maxim Romanenko, who was among the injured, explained, “After filming the aftermath of the shelling in Gorlovka, we were heading back to Donetsk when a kamikaze drone struck our car.”

Denis Pushilin, the head of the Donetsk region, stated on Telegram that all injured journalists are currently receiving medical care.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the attack, warning that those responsible for targeting Russian journalists would face “deserved and inevitable punishment.”
