KATHMANDU: Former Nepal Police Chief Sarbendra Khanal has officially announced his resignation from the CPN-UML (Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Marxist-Leninist).

Taking to Facebook, Khanal clarified his current political stance, stating that he is no longer affiliated with any political party.

“To clear any confusion regarding my political position, I want to state that I am currently not associated with any political party,” he wrote, adding, “I am working independently to address local and national issues.”

Khanal served as Nepal Police Chief from Chaith 2074 to Magh 2076.

After retiring due to the 30-year service limit, he joined the CPN-UML and formally became a member on Ashoj 6, 2079.

However, his political journey faced setbacks as he lost in both the general election from Kathmandu Constituency-6 and the by-election from Tanahun.

His decision to part ways with UML marks a shift toward independent efforts to tackle pressing challenges at various levels.
