KATHMANDU: Australia has booked its place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final by defeating India by six wickets in the fifth Test held in Sydney.
The victory, achieved within three days, ensures Australia will compete in the final scheduled for June in England.
Chasing a target of 162 runs, Australia successfully reached the total with four wickets down.
The team’s middle-order contributed significantly, guiding them to a comfortable win.
India struggled in both innings, managing 185 runs in the first and 157 in the second.
Australia, despite scoring 181 in their first innings, capitalized on India’s lower total in the second innings to seal the match.
With this win, Australia claimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 3-1 series victory and became the second team to qualify for the WTC final, joining South Africa.
This result also ended India’s hopes of reaching the final.
The series saw India dominate the first Test with a massive 295-run victory, while Australia bounced back to win the second Test by 10 wickets.
The third Test ended in a draw before Australia clinched the series with a win in the fourth match.
