Couple bidding farewell for Australia dies in accident

KATHMANDU: A scooter accident occurred on Dec 30 in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-2, Bhaktapur, involving a couple from Bhadrapur Municipality, Jhapa.
The scooter, bearing registration number Bagmati Province-02-028 P 6610, was being ridden by 31-year-old Nishchal Prakashraj Bhandari.
Nishchal passed away on Jan 3 during treatment at Norvic Hospital.
His wife, 28-year-old Puja Shrestha, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
The deceased Nishchal and injured Puja are the son and daughter-in-law of Chandra Shrestha, former deputy mayor of Bhadrapur Municipality.
The couple had been preparing to travel to Australia in the coming days. They had come to Kathmandu after bidding farewell to their hometown.
According to DSP Dhundhiraj Neupane of Bhaktapur District Police Office, the accident occurred as they tried to avoid hitting a dog.
“The scooter lost control while they were heading towards Magargaun from Thimi in an attempt to save the dog, as per preliminary investigations,” he stated.
