KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health in Province 1 has directed private hospitals to submit detailed records and reports on the free treatment provided to the poor, helpless, and abandoned patients.
Sagar Prasai, the public health administrator at the ministry, confirmed that all private hospitals have been instructed to comply.
According to the Health Institution Operation Standards, 2020 (First Amendment 2021), hospitals must allocate 10% of total beds for free treatment of poor, helpless, and abandoned patients.
Additionally, hospitals are required to maintain organized records of free and partially subsidized treatments, and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the relevant authorities.
The details of patients who have received free or partial services must also be displayed publicly.
Failure to comply with these regulations could lead to issues with the renewal of the health institution’s operating license, as outlined in Section 11 of the Health Institution Establishment, Operation, and Upgradation Guidelines, 2013.
The ministry has requested that private hospitals submit certified documents proving compliance with these guidelines, including records and reports of free treatments provided in the previous and current fiscal years, within seven days.
