KATHMANDU: The cold wave has intensified in Dhanusha and other districts of Madhesh due to dense fog and mist, prompting health experts to advise precautions.

Doctors have recommended wearing warm clothing, limiting outdoor activities to essential needs, and consuming liquid-based foods to combat the chill.

Dr. Chandeshwar Mahaseth has specifically urged extra caution for children, the elderly, and patients with asthma and respiratory illnesses, as they are more vulnerable.

“Patients with arthritis and joint pain may face worsened symptoms due to the cold. Morning walks should be avoided or conducted only with proper warm clothing,” Dr. Mahaseth advised.

Dr. Jamun Prasad Singh, Director of Provincial Hospital, Janakpur, noted an increase in patients suffering from colds, fevers, and cold-related diarrhea.

“The persistent fog in Janakpur since early morning has led to a significant drop in temperature. If this continues, the cold will intensify further. We urge everyone to exercise extreme caution,” he stated.

In response to the worsening weather, the provincial government has initiated measures such as distributing firewood and blankets.

According to Dipendra Kumar Yadav, spokesperson for the Ministry of Home, Communications, and Law, blankets have been sent to all districts, and awareness programs on cold-weather precautions are being planned.
