KATHMANDU: The Kaski District Court is conducting a detention hearing on charges of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering against Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and six other defendants.

Starting today, defense lawyers representing Lamichhane and the other accused will present their arguments.

On Thursday, lawyers representing the victims of the cooperative fraud presented their case.

However, due to time constraints, the defense team could not begin their arguments.

Earlier, on Tuesday and Wednesday, government prosecutors had put forth their arguments, seeking the pretrial detention of all seven defendants.

Today, the legal representatives of former DIG Chhabilal Joshi are set to initiate their defense.

Following this, lawyers representing Rabi Lamichhane and other defendants will present their case.

According to victim representative advocate Parajuli, Lamichhane has a team of 15 lawyers, while six lawyers represent Joshi.

Additionally, one lawyer represents Lila Pachhai, and two each represent the remaining defendants.

The hearing stems from a supplementary complaint filed by victims of the Suryadarsan Cooperative fraud.

The accused include Rabi Lamichhane, former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, Nature Herbs International proprietor Ram Prasad Khanal, Lila Pachhai, Mina Gurung, Krishna Bahadur Gurung, and Aarti Gurung.

The court proceedings continue to draw significant public and media attention, with a decision on pretrial detention pending the completion of the defense arguments.
