Detention hearing for Rabi Lamichhane & others continues at Kaski Court

KATHMANDU: The detention hearing for seven individuals, including Rabi Lamichhane, the President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), involved in a cooperative fraud case, continues today.

The hearing is taking place at the Kaski District Court, where seven individuals are accused of embezzling savings from the Surya Darshan Cooperative.

After the government lawyer’s arguments on Tuesday and Wednesday, the defense lawyers representing the victims of the cooperative fraud began their arguments on Thursday.

On Dec 22, the Kaski District Government Attorney’s Office filed a case against 44 individuals, including Lamichhane, for embezzling funds from the cooperative.

Lamichhane faces charges not only for cooperative fraud but also for organized crime and money laundering.

So far, the Government Attorney’s Office has filed charges against 63 individuals in relation to the Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud case at the Kaski District Court.

A case has also been filed against 19 individuals, including Lamichhane, for organized crime.

Lamichhane, accused of embezzling funds from the Surya Darshan Cooperative, was arrested in Kathmandu on Oct 18.
