Police seize illegal grocery items worth millions with pickup van

KATHMANDU: Rautahat police have seized a Nepali-registered pickup van carrying illegal grocery items worth over Rs 271,900, along with its driver.

The van, bearing registration number Province 2-001-Cha-4000, was intercepted with contraband items, including sugar, flour, coriander, refined oil, and betel nuts, smuggled from the border market of Bairgania.

The vehicle was apprehended near the Gaur bus park during a routine inspection conducted by a patrol team from the District Police Office, Rautahat, on Wednesday, according to District Police spokesperson DSP Deepak Kumar Raya.

The seized goods and the van were handed over to the Gaur Customs Office for further legal action.

The driver, identified as Dinesh Raut Barai of Gaur Municipality-8, is also under custody.

Under the direction of Rautahat Police Chief SP Dilip Ghimire, the district police have intensified operations to curb smuggling activities in the area.
