Kandara Band releases new song ‘Hunecha: The Song of Hope’, unveiled by PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Kandara Band has released a new song, “Hunecha: The Song of Hope,” as a gift for the first morning of the New Year 2025.

The music video for the song was unveiled by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar, marking another golden chapter in the band’s musical journey.

The song, inspired by Prime Minister Oli’s messages on building a positive society, potential, prosperity, and stability, is especially meaningful to patriots.

It aims to keep alive the dream of national unity and a prosperous Nepal while encouraging hope, unity, change, courage, and sacrifice.

The song calls for leaving behind negative thoughts and darkness and instead envisioning a brighter future. Its message emphasizes that unity, not division and conflict, strengthens the nation, highlighting the importance of individual transformation for the country’s overall transformation.

During the song’s release, Prime Minister Oli praised the song, saying, “You sang beautifully, such a lovely song. Exactly what the country needs.” He also wished the band success in their upcoming world tour, which began in 2025.

Vocalist Vivek Shrestha explained that the song reflects a positive vision for Nepalis, inspiring them to take responsibility and move forward together. He expressed that the Prime Minister’s endorsement of the song and its music video has given the band additional encouragement.

“Hunecha: The Song of Hope” features lyrics and music by the band’s drummer, Sunil Thapa. The music video was directed and scripted by Kedar Bhusal, with camera work by Naveen Thapa and Dipesh KC. Yagya Gyanwali and Dipesh KC assisted with the montage and B-rolls, while the editing was done by Madhu Sanjel, and VFX by Bam Bahadur Thapa.

The guitar, mixing, and mastering were handled by Dev Lama, with contributions from Pankaj Jha on bass, Umesh Thapa on keyboard, and Avinash Gayak on percussion.

Hari Maherjan arranged the song and provided the guitar work. The production was a collaboration with renowned studios such as Radio Nepal, Studio Project Production, and DLC. Art direction was by Santosh Devkota, with poster and promotional materials by Royal Bhimsen.

Kandara Band is known for their popular songs like “Lekaki Hey Maya,” “Bideshiyera Gayin Uni,” “Chanchle Kanchhiko,” “Bhedi Gothaima,” “Hong Kong Pokhara,” “Tagaro ma Rumal,” and “Bichara Ma.”

The current lineup of the band includes Vivek Shrestha on vocals, Sunil Thapa on drums, Dev Lama on lead guitar, Pankaj Jha on bass guitar, Avinash Gayak on madal, and Umesh Thapa on keyboard. Vocalist Shrestha and drummer Sunil Thapa are founding members of the band.

Previously, Kandara Band announced the celebration of their 32-year musical journey, with the year 2024-2025 designated as their “Home First, Then Abroad” tour, which includes performances across Nepal and around the world.
