KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army successfully defused a suspicious object placed in front of the Itahari Sub-Metropolitan Office on Tuesday.

According to Ram Prasad Timalsina, the Information Officer at the Sunsari District Police Office, the object was identified as a hoax bomb planted by a group claiming allegiance to monarchists.

“We found leaflets supporting the monarchy at the scene. A search operation is underway to apprehend those involved,” Timalsina informed Makalu Khabar.

The situation in Itahari is currently normal, he added. Police were alerted early Tuesday morning about a bomb placed in front of the sub-metropolitan office.

The suspicious object, a pressure cooker wrapped in wires, was confirmed to be a hoax.

Authorities are investigating the incident further.
