Ipswich Town & Newcastle triumph in Premier League clashes

KATHMANDU: Ipswich Town and Newcastle United secured impressive victories in the English Premier League, defeating Chelsea and Manchester United, respectively.

Ipswich, battling in the relegation zone, stunned Chelsea with a 2–0 win on Monday, while Newcastle earned an identical 2–0 victory over Manchester United at home.

At Portman Road, Ipswich took the lead in the 12th minute when Nathan Broadhead converted a penalty. George Hirst doubled their advantage in the 53rd minute, leaving Chelsea under pressure for the remainder of the game.

Chelsea remains third in the standings with 35 points from 19 matches, while Ipswich, sitting 18th, climbed to 15 points. Liverpool leads the table with 45 points, having played one game less.

In another game, Newcastle defeated Manchester United with goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton. Isak opened the scoring in the 4th minute, and Joelinton added a second in the 19th minute, putting United two goals down by halftime. This marked United’s third consecutive home defeat.

Newcastle rose to fifth place with 32 points, whereas United slipped to 14th with just 22 points. Elsewhere, Aston Villa and Brighton shared the spoils in a thrilling 2–2 draw.
