KATHMANDU: Continuous heavy snowfall since Dec 27 has covered Namkha Rural Municipality, located in northern Humla, with over a foot of snow.
The three-day-long snowfall has disrupted road and air transportation, severely impacting daily life.
Former Chairperson of Namkha Rural Municipality, Bishnu Lama, stated that more than a foot of snow has accumulated in the region.
“Cattle like cows and sheep are confined indoors, while yaks roam freely. Traveling between villages has become difficult, and transporting goods from the district headquarters, Simkot, has also been challenging,” Lama explained.
The Civil Aviation Office reported that all flights to and from Simkot have been suspended due to the snow.
With the cold intensifying, elderly people and children have resorted to sitting around fires to stay warm.
Locals have reported an extreme rise in cold temperatures, especially in the mornings and evenings, this winter.
