KATHMANDU: A suspension bridge has been constructed over the Arun River at Lamsuwaghat. Motorcycles and three-wheeler vehicles can also be operated on the bridge.

This is the first suspension bridge in the hill districts of Koshi province which has been constructed meeting the standard for operation of three-wheelers, the Infrastructure Development Office Bhojpur stated.

The structure has been constructed with investment of Rs 30.2 million of the Koshi Province Government.

The bridge is 203.8 metres long and five feet wide, said Rajan Raj Reddy, the Head of the Infrastructure Development Office Bhojpur.

Works on construction of a concrete bridge had been started at Lamsuwaghat since 2007 at the investment of the Federal Government.

Seven pillars were also constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 40 million for this purpose. But the construction of RCC bridge was suspended after encountering a big rock in the middle of the riverbed.

The provincial government constructed the suspension bridge for the convenience of locals after the construction of an RCC bridge was called off due to technical issues.

The bridge connects Kumaltar of Khadananda Municipality-6 and Khandbari Municipality-9 in Bhojpur district.
